KNC HIKING Group!
We are excited to begin our bi-weekly Friday morning hiking schedule. Please consider joining us for our inaugural Friday November 5th hike along Rose Valley Lake Loop | Silk 50 Trail in Rose Valley Regional Park.
We will be "taking a hike" every other Friday morning (COVID and weather-permitting). While this invitation is going out the the entire KNC membership (as a new activity available to all who are interested), future invitations will only be received by those who have marked off "hiking" in their membership profile. Please edit your profile to indicate your interest in receiving future hiking announcements.
Our approx. 3 or more hour hikes will generally depart at 9:00 a.m. from a variety of locations - from Lake Country in the north to Peachland in the south, and sometimes farther afield. Please review each hike's details, as the level of effort will vary from hike to hike, and may increase in effort as the weeks proceed.
Registration reminder: We've turned 'on' the registration button to help us collect contact information, to comply with COVID19 follow-ups, if necessary. Registration is solely for the purpose of creating an attendance list with contact detail. If you register but find yourself unable to attend, please cancel your registration through your KNC calendar.

ROSE VALLEY LAKE LOOP | SILK 50 TRAIL, ROSE VALLEY REGIONAL PARK, WEST KELOWNA
Rose Valley Lake Loop | Silk 50 Trail, in Rose Valley Regional Park, are 12.9 km, 477 m elevation gain, moderately trafficked loop and out and back trails located in Rose Valley Regional Park, West Kelowna, that feature a lake and are rated as moderate. Rather than complete the full Rose Valley loop, which requires walking down residential streets, we will switch over to the Silk 50 trail to complete the loop inside Rose Valley Regional Park. We will be within cell phone service service throughout the hike, however please along adequate hydration, nutrition, sun protection, extra clothing for warmth, trekking poles (if you use them), small first aid kit, a whistle and good hiking boots, for safety's sake. Your hike leaders (one will lead and another will sweep), will have downloaded to their communication devices, and printed, the relevant AllTrails maps to aid navigation of the trails (Rose Valley has numerous unmarked branch trails, making it very easy to take a wrong turn). Your hike leaders will be at the trailhead at 8:45 a.m. to meet our hikers, and begin the hike promptly at 9:00 a.m. If weather conditions are such that the decision is made to cancel the hike, it will be done so the morning of the hike, so please keep an eye on your email. We will also, prior to leaving the parking lot, have a short discussion of the expectations of our new group going forward and we welcome all comments and suggestions.
Directions: (from Orchard Park Mall)
- Turn onto Cooper Rd
- Turn left onto Harvey Ave/Okanagan Hwy/BC-97 S for 8.7 km over the William Bennett bridge into West Kelowna
- Turn right onto Horizon Dr for 3.3 km
- Turn left onto Westlake Rd for 180 m
- Destination will be on the right, in the Rose Valley Regional Park parking lot.
