KNC HIKING Group!
We are excited to continued our bi-weekly Friday morning hiking schedule. Please consider joining us for our Friday December 3, 2021.
Please note that the maximum registration for hikers is 10.
We will be "taking a hike" every other Friday morning (COVID and weather-permitting). While this invitation is going out the the entire KNC membership (as a new activity available to all who are interested), future invitations will only be received by those who have marked off "hiking" in their membership profile. Please edit your profile to indicate your interest in receiving future hiking announcements.
Our approx. 3 or more hour hikes will generally depart at 9:00 a.m. from a variety of locations - from Lake Country in the north to Peachland in the south, and sometimes farther afield. Please review each hike's details, as the level of effort will vary from hike to hike, and may increase in effort as the weeks proceed.
Registration reminder: We've turned 'on' the registration button to help us collect contact information, to comply with COVID19 follow-ups, if necessary. Registration is solely for the purpose of creating an attendance list with contact detail. If you register but find yourself unable to attend, please cancel your registration through your KNC calendar.

SPION KOP (LOOKOUT HILL)
Spion Kop (Lookout Hill) is a 8.2 kilometre (406 m gain) out and back trail located near Lake Country that features a lake and beautiful views from the top. It is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking.
A few parts of the trail are quite steep so trekking poles are highly recommended. Also crampons may be required depending on the temperature on the day of the hike.
The name Spion Kop is a Dutch term for "lookout hill". Out of the several different trail options to get to the top of Spion Kop, this route (named Summit Trail) provides the most elevation gain and biggest workout.
Your hike leaders will be at the trailhead at 8:45 a.m. to meet our hikers, and begin the hike promptly at 9:00 a.m. If weather conditions are such that the decision is made to cancel the hike, it will be done so the morning of the hike, so please keep an eye on your email. We will also, prior to leaving the parking lot, have a short discussion of hike expectations and we welcome all comments and suggestions.

Take the Pelmewash Pkwy exit for 220 m

Continue onto Pelmewash Pkwy for 1.2 km

Turn left onto Ponderosa Dr for 400 m

Turn right onto Old Mission Rd for 1.1 km

Proceed to gravel parking area on the right.
