We are excited to continue our Thursday morning walking schedule. Please consider joining us for Thursday's walk on Abbott Street, from Kelowna City Park.

If you're new to this activity, you'll learn that we "take a walk" every Thursday morning year-round (COVID and weather-permitting), except for a couple of weeks before and after Christmas.
Our 1 to 1 & 1/2 hour walks generally depart at 9:00 a.m. from a variety of attractive locations - from Lake Country in the north to Peachland in the south.
Registration reminder: We've turned 'on' the registration button to help us collect contact information, to comply with COVID19 follow-ups, if necessary. Registration is solely for the purpose of creating an attendance list with contact detail. If you register but find yourself unable to attend, please cancel your registration through your KNC calendar.

ABBOTT STREET, FROM KELOWNA CITY PARK
Abbot Street is a lovely residential, tree-lined street in downtown Kelowna, which is popular for walking and cycling and near the lake. There are numerous access points to the lake that can be explored from Abbott Street.
Directions:
Park at the large parking lot within Kelowna City Park, near the William Bennet bridge. Entrance to the parking is off Abbott St at Leon Ave. This is a relatively shorter, flat walk which will start from the parking lot, continue under Harvey Ave. and along Abbott St to its end at Cedar Avenue. This is an out and back route, 2.5 kms each way.
Note: The parking lot is managed by Impark Parking and **there is a fee for parking** (last check on cost was $1.00 per hour, but possibly somewhat higher now).
With Orchard Park Shopping Centre as your starting point for directions:

Turn onto Harvey Ave/Okanagan Hwy/BC-97 S for 4.1 km

Turn right onto Abbott St for 86 m

Turn left at Leon Ave

Turn into Parking Lot at 1600 Abbott St

Difficulty: EASY
Wide sidewalk most of the way, and route is flat. Watch out for cyclists. The walk will start from the Kelowna City Parking lot and proceed through the tunnel under Harvey Street and up onto Abbot Street for about 1.5 kms, at which point Abbot turns slightly left and becomes Christleton Ave. After about 100m, turn right back onto Abbott Street for 500m, then turn right onto Wardlaw Ave for about 50m. Wardlaw will then turn left and once again become Abbott Street. Keep on Abbot until its intersection with Cedar Ave, which is the turnaround point, where you will begin to retrace your steps back to the parking lot.

Coffee and Snacks: due to Covid19, we will not be gathering at a coffee shop or restaurant after the walk. For those who wish gather after the walk for a social chat, weather permitting, please bring your travel beverage mug, snacks and a camp chair and we’ll set up in the parking lot.
