KNC HIKING Group!
We are excited to continued our bi-weekly Friday morning hiking schedule. Please consider joining us for our Friday hike to the Backside of Pincushion Mountain, Peachland
We will be "taking a hike" every other Friday morning (COVID and weather-permitting). To review our hiking rules, please click here: Hiking Group Rules and Guidelines.pdf. Please note that attendance is limited to 10 hikers - please register early to ensure a spot. The waitlist is enabled, so if you register, but cannot attend, please cancel your registration (by logging into your KNC profile), so the next person on the waitlist can be registered.
Our approx. 3 or more hour hikes will generally depart at 9:00 a.m. from a variety of locations - from Lake Country in the north to Peachland in the south, and sometimes farther afield. Please review each hike's details, as the level of effort will vary from hike to hike, and may increase in effort as the weeks proceed.
Registration reminder: We've turned 'on' the registration button to help us collect contact information, to comply with COVID19 follow-ups, if necessary. Registration is solely for the purpose of creating an attendance list with contact detail.

Backside of Pincushion Mountain - Peachland
This 4.3 km, 330 metre gain hiking trail takes you up and behind the more heavily travelled Pincushion Mountain trail. The hike takes about 2 1/2 hours.
While this hike is does not cover a lot of distance, the 330 metre gain over this shorter distance may challenge your leg muscles and lung capacity. Make sure to wear your sturdy hiking boots/shoes, bring your poles and pack water and tick repellent if you have it.
But the views on the way up and at the top are truly amazing, providing views down Okanagan Lake to Penticton, across the lake to Okanagan Mountain and north to Kelowna. You feel like you are on the top of the world!!
If we feel like it, on the way down from this trail, we can rejoin the Pincushion Mountain trail and continue up to the top of that trail. This will be decided by the group.
Your hike leaders will be at the trailhead at 8:45 a.m. to meet our hikers, and begin the hike promptly at 9:00 a.m. If weather conditions are such that the decision is made to cancel the hike, it will be done so the morning of the hike, so please keep an eye on your email. We will also, prior to leaving the parking lot, have a short discussion of hike expectations and we welcome all comments and suggestions.
Directions: (from Orchard Park Mall)
- Turn onto Harvey Ave/Okanagan Hwy/BC-97 S and cross the William R. Bennett bridge, continuing to follow Okanagan Hwy/BC-97 S for 26.3 km (to the big peach in Peachland)
- Slight right onto Ponderosa Dr (at the peach) for 2.8 km (staying on Ponderosa Dr. as it climbs and switchbacks)
- Slight left into the gravel parking lot at 4639 Ponderosa Dr., Peachland
