Please consider joining us for our June 10, 2022 hike to Whittaker's Hut.
IMPORTANT NOTE: OUR NEXT HIKING DATE WOULD NORMALLY BE JUNE 3 BUT, DUE TO PERSONAL COMMITMENTS, WE HAVE MOVED THE HIKING SCHEDULE BACK A WEEK SUCH THAT THE EVERY OTHER WEEK HIKE SCHEDULE WILL NOW OCCUR FROM JUNE 10 ONWARD (NEXT SCHEDULED HIKE AFTER THIS ONE WILL BE JUNE 24).
Please note that the maximum registration for this hike is 12 hikers. The waitlist is enabled.
The Hiking Group "takes a hike" every other Friday morning (weather-permitting). Our approx. 3 (or more) hour hikes will generally depart at 9:00 a.m. from a variety of locations - from Lake Country in the north to Peachland in the south, and sometimes farther afield. Please review each hike's details, as the level of effort will vary from hike to hike, and may increase in effort as the weeks proceed.
Registration reminder: Registration is solely for the purpose of creating an attendance list with contact detail. If you register for a hike, but find yourself unable to attend, please cancel your registration through your KNC calendar, to allow any waitlisted hikers to be registered in your place.

Whittaker's Hut Trail
This 12.7 km trail takes approximately 3.5 hours with a 467 m gain and loops through cutovers above the KVR on old logging roads around the headwaters of Priest Creek. This trail is mostly on old logging roads with a brief animal trail section across the head of Priest Creek. It offers extensive views over the young trees and an excellent viewpoint and lunch spot at Whittakers Hut.
Your hike leader will be at the trailhead at 8:45 a.m. to meet our hikers, and begin the hike promptly at 9:00 a.m. If weather conditions are such that the decision is made to cancel the hike, it will be done so the morning of the hike, so please keep an eye on your email. We will also, prior to leaving the parking lot, have a short discussion of hike expectations and we welcome all comments and suggestions.

Directions (from Orchard Park Mall):
- Turn onto Harvey Ave/Okanagan Hwy/BC-97 N for 100 m
- Turn right onto Dilworth Dr 500 m
- Continue onto Benvoulin Rd for 2.4 km
- Turn left onto K.L.O. Rd for 2.6 km
- Turn right onto McCulloch Rd for 1.7 km
- Turn right to stay on McCulloch Rd for 1.4 km
- Turn right onto June Springs Rd for 450 m
- Continue to stay on June Springs Rd for 5.6 km
- Continue onto Little White Forest Service Rd (road becomes gravel at this point)
- Turn left onto Kettle Valley Rail Trail Parking Area and park close to the lot entrance
