Please consider joining us for our Friday July 8, 2022 hike Above the the KVR Trestles. along various McCulloch Snowmobile trails.
We "take a hike" every other Friday morning (weather-permitting). To review our hiking rules, please click here: Hiking Group Rules and Guidelines.pdf. Please note that attendance is limited to 12 hikers - please register early to ensure a spot. The waitlist is enabled so, if you register but cannot attend, please cancel your registration (by logging into your KNC profile), allowing the next person on the waitlist to be registered.
Our approx. 3 or more hour hikes will generally depart at 9:00 a.m. from a variety of locations - from Lake Country in the north to Peachland in the south, and sometimes farther afield. Please review each hike's details, as the level of effort will vary from hike to hike, and may increase as the weeks proceed.
Note: Ticks are especially abundant this year. Please take necessary precautions.

ABOVE THE TRESTLES - FROM MYRA FSR
We will head out on this 16 km, 346 m elevation gain, loop trails system that is located above the KVR trestles, from the Myra FSR parking lot. This will be a long, moderately challenging hike on various forest service roads and trails that are mostly used by the McCulloch Snowmobile groups in the winter. We're hoping that this area will be dry enough to hike on Friday, given the amount of precipitation we've been experiencing. We had a different hike planned, but abandoned hope of hiking that trail, given the saturated soil. This trail is a loop however if we find any impassable areas we can either shorten the loop with a crossover, or just head back the way we came.
Parking will be at the large parking area at the Myra Forest Service Road KVR parking lot. Please park as close to the *entrance* of the lot as possible, as, once parked, we will trek back out of the lot (the way we drove in) turning to our right to head up the continuation of the service road to begin our hike. We will stay well above the KVR for the duration of the hike.
Directions: (from Orchard Park Mall to KVR parking lot)

Turn left onto Cooper Road for 750 m

Turn right onto Benvoulin Rd for 1.8 km

Turn left onto K. L. O. Road for 2.6 km

Turn right onto McCulloch Road for 1.7 km

Turn right to stay on McCulloch Road for 6.1 km

Turn right onto Myra Forest Service Rd for 8.4 km (gravelled road - may be bumpy with washboarding)

Turn right into the parking lot. Park as close to the entrance of the lot as possible, as we will begin our hike near the entrance.
