Welcome

HIKING Group!

Please consider joining us for our Friday September 16, 2022  hike along the High Rim Trail from Beaver Lake Road through Wrinkly Face Provincial Park to the Monolith. Fingers crossed that the weather cooperates this time and the hike is really a go!  As always, if we need to cancel, we will do so prior to 7am the morning of the hike (or earlier), so please keep an eye on your email.

We "take a hike" every other Friday morning (weather-permitting). To review our hiking rules, please click here: Hiking Group Rules and Guidelines.pdfPlease note that attendance is limited to 12 hikers - please register early to ensure a spot.  The waitlist is enabled, so, if you register but cannot attend, please cancel your registration (by logging into your KNC profile), allowing the next person on the waitlist to be registered.

Our approx. 3 or more hour hikes will generally depart at 9:00 a.m. from a variety of locations - from Lake Country in the north to Peachland in the south, and sometimes farther afield. Please review each hike's details, as the level of effort will vary from hike to hike, and may increase as the weeks proceed.

High Rim Trail from Beaver Lake Road trailhead, through Wrinkly Face Provincial Park to The Monolith

We will head out on this 18.86 km, 663 m elevation gain, out and back trail near Lake Country. Generally considered a moderately challenging route, it takes an average of 4 hours to complete. This is a portion of the much longer High Rim Trail that runs from Highway 33 near Kelowna to Coldstream, near Vernon. We'll be walking through various terrain (mostly wooded, some forest service roads) and may even encounter some livestock along the way. Portions of the trail may be muddy, so be prepared with water-resistant hikers. The Wrinkly Face PP meadows contain rare wildflower species, (we won't see them, as the floral show was about a month ago) so it's especially important to stay on the trails while in the Park. If you'd like a little more info about Wrinkly Face, please click here:

Most of the hike will be through wooded areas, so we should be somewhat protected from the sun, but given our weather, sunscreen and head protection will be a good bet, along with lots of water.

If we decide along at any point along the way that the weather is too hot to complete the hike, we will turn around and head back to the trailhead.

Directions: (from Orchard Park Mall to High Rim Trail - Beaver Lake Road trailhead)

  • Turn right onto Hwy 97 N/Harvey Ave/Okanagan Hwy/BC-97 North for 17.6 km
  • Turn right onto Beaver Lake Rd for 12.2 km (combo of paved and then  gravel road - **uphill for the entire 12.2 kms** - road is uneven and bumpy in spots, but there is no need for high clearance or 4-wheel drive vehicle - just take it slow).
  • Trailhead is on the left - parking on both sides of Beaver Lake Road
